Many of us have the understanding that if we think hard and long about what we want we will attract it into our lives.
By definition, attraction is to pull something in. In physics, opposite poles (positive and negative) attract, and the same poles repel. So, when we're speaking about the law of attraction, the only thing we are going to attract is the very opposite thing we’re attached to or emotionally charged about.
When we’re highly elated, we attract humbling events, when we’re depressed we attract people that uplift us. Every fantasy has it’s nightmare, just like every coin has it’s flip side. The law of attraction is a centering mechanism, so when we’re polarised to one side, we’ll attract the opposite to center us. At this centre point, we’re objective and clear, and actions are effortless.
Many of us mistake the law of attraction for the law of resonance. The law of attraction is an attraction and repulsion phenomenon, whereas the law of resonance is a vibratory phenomenon. The word resonance is derived from Latin and means to "resound" - to sound out together with a loud sound at the same frequency.
If we were to place two guitars next to each other, and just pluck a string on one of them, the string of the same note of the other guitar would naturally vibrate. This phenomenon is known as sympathetic resonance - when one object vibrating at the same natural frequency of a second object forces that second object into vibrational motion. In other words, vibrations alike come together.
A classic experiment to demonstrate this known fact is with two similar tuning-forks. Where one is mounted on a wooden box. When the other one is struck and then placed on the box, then muted, the un-struck mounted fork will be heard. Here is a link to a physics video that demonstrates the phenomenon of resonance.
So what does this mean in the genre of personal development?. The manifestation or the creation of the life that you’re wanting to create is a resonance game. It is a function of you resonating differently. Manifesting is not about attracting what you want, it is an awareness and understanding that you attract what you are.
To bring the person you want to become into being; you need to be the person you want to become. No amount of effortless thinking is going to help you attract the things you want. When we truly understand that life takes effort, it somehow becomes effortless. You amplify your life when you claim what you do, be and have.
The secret is that there is no secret.
